The 1980 Olympic hockey team pulled of
one of the greatest upsets in sports history by beating the Soviet
Union in the Olympic semi final. The movie Miracle tells
the story of this legendary team. Before the game against the Soviet
Union Herb Brooks (played by Kurt Russel) comes out and gives them an
amazing emotional speech.
Ethos:
Herb Brooks is their Coach and his players respect and believe what
he says. He also talks about how the team has earned to be in this
game and they earned the right to win this game.
Pathos:
This whole speech is meant to hit the team emotionally. He gets the
team fired up and believing that they can beat the Soviet's. He
brings down the Soviets by insulting them and he builds up his team
and gets them emotionally ready to go.
Logos:
He uses a logical by saying you deserve to be here you deserve to win
so go and do it. He gives his team hope that they can really beat the
Soviets.
